Celebrate Earth Day
Everyday!
Do your part to reduce your Carbon Foot Print.
Here are some simple ideas:
Appliances
-
-
When
cooking, alwa ys
use the smallest pan possible on the appropriate
sized burner to reduce energy
waste
-
Purchase
new appliances with the Energy Star
label
-
Wash your
laundry in cold water & fill it to capacity to reduce additional loads
-
Clean your
dryer filter before each use & do not over fill the dryer. Better yet, let
the sun do the work by using a clothesline instead.
-
Check the
seals on your refrigerator to make sure they are working properly & keep the
coils in the back or the bottom clean
-
Only wash
full loads in the dishwasher & leave the door open during drying rather than
using the drying cycle
-
Wrap your
water heater & set it at the lowest temperature to fill your hot water needs
(do not go below 120F)
Beware
of the Phantom Menace -
Many
appliances use
electricity
even when we are not using them. Take one night, shut off all the lights
in your home &
look for the glow from your appliances. Did you know that in the average home
75% of the electricity used to power these electronics is consumed when they're
shut off? Other recommendations include:
Buy CFL's
- they last longer & cost less over time
